Fabric and fibre options for underwear

In underwear the fabric must be fine, elastic and able to withstand washing. Cotton and organic cotton are the base fibres; modal and TENCEL™ Lyocell are added to the blend for softness and moisture management, and a small share of elastane gives stretch. In products with an absorbent layer, the layer construction is developed together with the product. Dimensional stability and stretch are measured at fabric intake. We source the fabric; for this group, single jersey, rib, fine rib and interlock are among the knitted fabrics we can supply.

What each fibre is and how it behaves in fabric is described on the fibres page.

Working model for underwear

Underwear is a group with frequent repeats that needs continuous supply; planning is done accordingly in both models.

  • Private label

Product development is ours: choice of fabric, elastic and trims, pattern, sampling and production. For never-out-of-stock products a continuous supply programme is set up.

  • Full-package

The tech pack comes from you; fabric, elastic, labels and the entire supply chain come from us. In products with an absorbent layer, the layer construction is developed together in this model.

In both models we are your OEM manufacturer: every order is made entirely to your specification; design, pattern and fabric choice are set by your brand, and the product carries your label. Collection production and working models

Frequently asked questions about underwear production

  • What is the difference between OEKO-TEX Class I and Class II in underwear?

Class I has the strictest limit values of the standard and is designed for baby products up to 36 months; in our certificate, baby products, period underwear and absorbent men's underwear for light incontinence are in this class. Class II is for everyday products in direct contact with the skin; underwear is tested in this class.

  • Do you produce underwear with an absorbent layer?

Yes. Period underwear and absorbent men's underwear for light incontinence are within the scope of our OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I certificate; the layer construction is developed together with the product and approved on the sample.

  • Which fabrics are suitable for underwear?

Cotton and organic cotton are the base fibres; modal and TENCEL™ Lyocell blends add softness and a small share of elastane provides stretch. The fabric is a fine-gauge knit and is measured at intake for stretch and dimensional stability.

  • Can we set up a continuous supply programme?

Yes. For never-out-of-stock products, repeat orders are planned on the same lines and to the same quality standard as long as the minimum order quantity is met; small, flexible sewing lines make this possible.

  • How are labelling and packing handled?

The product carries your brand's label; label, swing tag and pack type are specified in the tech pack. Store-by-store packing and assortment preparation are possible.
