Sock types

We make socks on a dedicated line. It runs knitting machines with 132, 144, 156, 168 and 200 needles, an automatic toe-closing system and a Tecnopea automatic steam boarding machine; our monthly capacity is 160,000 pairs. On request, socks are enzyme washed in-house. We also knit bandanas on our sock machines.

  • Sports socks

Toe closing on the machine: Lonati GE616FP

Our sock line runs Lonati GE616FP machines. These single-cylinder, single-feed machines carry Lonati's new-generation SbyS (stitch by stitch) device for automatic toe closing.

The toe is closed on the machine while the sock is being knitted, joined stitch by stitch; Lonati calls this technique "true linking". In the conventional method, where the toe is closed in a separate sewing step after knitting, a thick seam ridge forms at the join. A toe closed on the machine has no such ridge; it is barely noticeable when worn.

The facility also has a steam enzyme washing machine: knitting, enzyme washing, boarding, packing and quality control are all carried out in-house. Socks are boarded on a Tecnopea automatic steam boarding machine.

Tecnopea automatic steam boarding

We board our socks on a Tecnopea automatic steam boarding machine. Socks pulled onto forms are first steamed, then pressed and passed through a heated tunnel to set their shape.

When boarding is complete, the machine's robotic arms take the socks off the forms and stack them neatly on a conveyor belt. This automation gives every pair the same shape and dimensions while keeping the boarding and stacking line flowing steadily, and supports production planning for high-volume orders.

Yarn and fibre options for socks

For socks the choice is a yarn rather than a fabric. Cotton and organic cotton blends are the base yarns; polyamide is added for strength and shape, elastane for stretch in the leg and foot. Recycled polyamide is used in our socks and is registered for the sock product group in our RCS certificate; organic cotton socks are registered at the "Made With Organic" level in GOTS and at the Blended level in OCS. Bamboo viscose and polyester blends are knitted on the same machines.

Recycled polyamide and organic cotton are the fibres listed in our sock registration; the others can be chosen for blends. Details on the fibres page.

Working model for socks

In both models the socks are produced under your brand's label and yarn sourcing is ours; the difference lies in who provides the design. For socks, the minimum order quantity is low.

  • Private label

Design, yarn choice, knitting and packing come from us; you send the sock type, size breakdown and quantity.

  • Full-package

The design and the tech pack come from you; yarn, trims, packing materials and the supply chain from us. A request for recycled polyamide or organic cotton is part of the yarn choice from the start.

In both models we are your OEM manufacturer: every order is made entirely to your specification; design, pattern and fabric choice are set by your brand, and the product carries your label. Collection production and working models

Certifications

Socks are within the scope of our OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class II certificate (not Class I). Organic cotton socks are registered at the "Made With Organic" level in GOTS, and the sock product group is registered as OCS Blended and RCS Blended; a Transaction Certificate is issued for goods shipped.

Frequently asked questions about sock production

  • How does private label sock production work?

It starts with the sock type, size breakdown, colour and pattern details; yarn choice and knitting plan come from us, and production is planned after sample approval. The product carries your brand's label and packaging. Packaging options: header card (sewn or fastened with a tagging pin), sleeve and box.

  • How are the socks boarded?

On a Tecnopea automatic steam boarding machine. Socks on forms are steamed, pressed and passed through a heated tunnel; robotic arms then take them off the forms and stack them on a conveyor belt, so every pair comes out with the same shape and dimensions.

  • Why is the toe closed without a separate sewing step?

The toe is closed automatically on the machine while the sock is being knitted, joined stitch by stitch; there is no separate sewing step. As a result no thick seam ridge forms at the toe, and the result is repeatable from pair to pair.

  • What does the needle count mean?

Our machines have 132, 144, 156, 168 and 200 needles. The needle count determines how dense the knit is: a lower count gives a thicker, fuller sock, a higher count a finer, denser one. It is chosen together according to the product type.

  • Can socks be produced with recycled polyamide?

Yes. Recycled polyamide is used in our socks and is registered at the Blended level for the sock product group in our RCS certificate; if specified in the order, a Transaction Certificate is issued for the shipment.

  • Which OEKO-TEX class applies to socks?

Class II. Everyday products in direct contact with the skin are tested in this class, and socks are within this scope in our certificate. Class I is only for baby products and the two underwear products listed in the certificate.

  • Do you produce kids' socks?

Yes. In children's sizes, with the same automatic toe closing and Tecnopea automatic steam boarding as adult socks; the size range is decided together at the order stage.
